Natalie was very informative of the different techniques. She had us try each one and gave us suggestions on how to better them. She showed us different types of paint materials and how to use them. I hadn?t had a watercolor class since grade school so this was what I needed.

Title or Location: Plover and her Chicks
I saw a photo of a Plover with her chicks a while back. I have always loved Plovers and have never seen their chicks before. Unfortunately, I don't know where I found the photo. I wanted to try and recreate it in watercolor. I feel good about the background and over all look of the painting.

I almost threw this away. Sometimes I have a hard time "pushing through" a painting that I am doing. I'm tempted to stop and say "this is not good, I won't finish it, it's awful". I painted the sky background a year ago and the painting just sat in a corner. One day I decided to just "play" with this piece of paper and I loved what happened! Quite often I find that I need to let my artwork just cook in a corner. Every once in a while I surprise myself!

I use my small watercolor kit to document the places I experience while traveling and working on tje road. I was able to spend most of the winter in Arizona, spending time in the unique Sonoran desert. Where each saguaro cacti has its own personality within the Sonoran's surreal landscape.

After I had joint replacement surgery on my left thumb, my dominant hand, I still wanted to paint. I thought that I'd just play with color using my right hand to wield the brush. To my amazement, I painted with more spontaneity and with a looseness I've been trying to achieve before. Maybe I'm ambidextrous and have only just discovered it (I'm 76).

Title or Location: Twilight in Penarth
I used to live in Penarth, and find it an interesting town by the sea, with lovely shopping, eclectic coffee shops, parks, and of course the wonderful pier. I am also fascinated by the wonderful lamps in Britain and beyond, their history and intricate designs. Hence this lovely lamp, taken from its neighbours, to stand proud and alone, but with the outline of the pier behind to illustrate its context of Penarth.
