50mm Lens Meetup

50mm Lens Meetup

Saturday 02 August
F.A. Seiberling Nature Realm - 10am - 2 Hours
Akron Photography Group
Marc Braun
The 50mm lens is one of the flexible and useful lenses in any photographers gear bag. It is neither a wide-angle or telephoto lens, but allows the camera to see on the same scale as your eye. As such, it can be used for a variety of styles, from landscape and street photography to portrait and product photography. In this meetup, well review the basic camera settings. Well then cover some of the advantages of shooting with a prime lens, and some basic techniques to using the 50mm lens. As always, there will be ample opportunities for you to put your new knowledge into practice.

REVIEWS
It was a really good experience. Small, approachable, quaint. And I was even one of those awful people that didn't see anything about bringing supplies and came empty handed (eek!) but had a generous classmate and Kat was flexible in finding solutions. Don't know why I missed it?!?!? But, I take responsibility for not reading! Three was comfortable in that space. 4 would have been tight with the format of the tables. Because of the limit of time, I liked how she jumped in to walk us through approaching the still life and teaching some skills in parallel. With honestly ZERO artistic skill I was pretty pleased how my attempt turned out. Would be interested in further classes!

Title or Location: Rapture of the Belly Dancer
As a former Belly Dancer I enjoy painting them. This particular dancer seemed to be entranced in the dance. Her dancing was so exuberant and joyful. The movement of her veil seemed to lift all who watched her to a higher and freer level.

Title or Location: ?Emptying the Sea?
I had taken my grand children to the beach in Buckroe, Virginia. My three year old granddaughter, Mia was quite serious and intent on getting all the water she could in her little red pail to haul it back on the beach to a sand castle she was building. Her actions were so beautifully innocent and yet filled with determination. I just had to capture the moment.

Title or Location: Mr Fox
For this 8x10 watercolor painting I used salt on wet paint in the background to give an impression of foliage, and a variety of strong brush strokes in green and blue in the foreground to give the impression of the Fox semi-hidden in grasses. My hope was to convey some of the impish beauty of this elusive woodland creature.
